Pizza is a favourite meal for so many families because of the ease of ordering, taste, texture and variety of flavours. Alone or with friends and family, there are also many ways to enjoy your pizza – baking a glorious topping heavy pie at home, going out and making a night of it in your favourite pizza parlour, or having the convenience of it being delivered right to your door. Vancouver may still in its infancy in developing its passion for the plantbased pizza but these five businesses will help you start a new section of take-out menu’s.
Vancouver’s original plant-based pizzeria opened in 2011 and dishes up an amazing selection of vegan-friendly pizza, pasta, salads, donairs and deserts. It was the first vegan pizza I had ever tried and I left thoroughly impressed. All of the sauces and dressings are prepared in-house, using the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Try the Harvest Special with its delicious creamy garlic sauce, roasted eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini and corn. Delivery available.
As the newest pizza place on the scene, Virtuous Pie is making its mark in Chinatown by also offering vegan ice cream for dessert. I cannot tell you how many people have been raving about this restaurant since they opened. Virtuous Pieoffers delicious plant-based pizza and other delicious options that sustains a healthy body and a healthy planet. The handcrafted pizzas only take six minutes from the time your order. Highly recommend stopping in for a quick lunch, taking a box to go, or staying a while, pairing it with drinks and a scoop of ice cream for dessert.
Indigo Age Cafe has been on the 5For5 list before for their menu and selection but I did not try the pizza! The Cafe offers two different raw pizzas – Pesto and the West Coast. Both are stacked high with plant based goodness and are not traditional pies as they are not baked at high heats and served cold. The West Coast Pizza is made with traditional marinara sauce, marinated mushrooms, vegan cheese, pesto, greens, zucchini and tomatoes. So delicious and just as messy as oven baked.
This small Mexican fast food restaurant has limited seating but with unlimited flavours. In addition to a fantastic selection of Mexican food made with tofurkey sausage, roasted potatoes and chipotle tofu, they make a wicked vegan pizza that can be ordered with a whack of guacamole for extra special squishiness. So good, patrons line-up for it.
Not many people know that Panago offers great dairy-free options. The Vegan Deluxe Pepperoni is a favourite of many. You can also choose any pizza you like and customize it to include Daiya Dairy-Free – just make sure the sauce is Italian Tomato. There is the option to create your own pizza and pack it with all your favourite toppings and receive it right to your door within half an hour!
